Group Bookings
For Groups of 3 or more the fitting fee is reduced to £30.00 per horse and mileage is shared.
Please note we will only travel further than area 5 (50 miles) for group fittings and mileage is charged at 75p per mile both ways.
Routine Saddle Checks
For those who have purchased a saddle from ourselves and require a routine saddle check the fitting fee of £40.00 plus mileage applies.
We can also extend this service to saddles not originally fitted by ourselves the distance travelled however is limited to 30 miles unless we are already in attendance at the same yard for another appointment.
If you can bring the horse to us to have your saddle assessed you will save on fitting fees and pay only our £30.00 fitting fee plus any alteration.
If you have had your saddle fitted or checked by another SMS QSF within the last 12 months we recommend you continue with their services, if you still wish to use our services please note that we are obliged by our code of conduct to discuss this attendance with your original fitter to gain history and profile details. If your saddle fitter is not a SMS QSF then this condition does not apply.
Should your saddle check require a second visit to re fit your horse with a new saddle a second fitting fee will not be payable only a second mileage charge if applicable.
About your Saddle Fitting appointment
Firstly you need to allow time, as a general rule a saddle fitting for a new saddle will take 1 – 2 hours per horse and a saddle check or review will take 45 minutes – 1 hour. A saddle check follows the same format but we only assess your existing saddle unless you specify for us to bring others to try.
Your saddle fitter will take a brief history of you and your horse as well as making an assessment of your horse’s conformation and suitability for fitting.
When we are happy to proceed with the fitting we will try on a selection of saddles and identify those suitable to girth up and ride in, if there are 5 saddles that suit no problem you can try them all.
Once we have assessed the saddle ridden preferably in walk, trot, canter and over a jump if necessary we will discuss the advantages and benefits of each saddle, advise you if any further alteration would be required to improve the fit further and we will give our professional opinion on what we believe suits you and your horse the best so you can make the most informed choice.
If you decide to go ahead and buy or order a new saddle your fitter will make any relevant recommendations and discuss your aftercare plan, advising when your saddle should next be checked/reviewed.
As a rough guide we recommend your saddle is checked annually but for those horses who are young or on a fitness plan then a review is sometimes required within 3 – 6 months and remember every saddle we sell has a 7 day ‘Are you Happy?’ or your money back Guarantee (*).
We also stock a selection of saddle accessories, if would like us to bring over any numnahs, leathers, irons or girths to match, no problem just let us know alternatively if you prefer to use certain pads under your saddle please have these available so we can take these into consideration at your saddle fitting appointment.
We are happy to work with other equestrian professionals so it’s no problem if you would like to have your instructor/trainer or physiotherapist present, it all helps you make the best choice.

(*)We offer a 7 day ‘Are you Happy?’

All returned saddles are subject to inspection and a restocking charge may apply if over used, worn or marked. Any seriously damaged saddles will not be refunded.
Aftercare & Servicing
Once you have had your saddle fitted we recommend your saddle is checked at regular intervals or at least annually. To help you manage this we will text you when your saddle check review is due. It is important to remember that horses do change shape dependant on age, time of year, changes in work, diet even a change of home or rider can make a difference. Using a weight tape may help you assess this, as a general rule a 5 – 10 cm change up or down may affect how your saddle fits so it might be worth a phone call to discuss its fitting further.
Alternatively check out our Troubleshooting & Fitting guide.
Saddle alterations in many instances can be done at your yard but in some instances they will need to be worked on back at our onsite workshop. Overseen by our Master Saddle the workshop provides saddle repairs such as replacement girth straps and stitching as well as flocking alterations. For any major alterations and repairs and to protect your warranty we will return the saddle to the original manufacturer.
Please be aware if you choose to have an alternative saddle fitter to check a saddle purchased from ourselves and they proceed to adjust the saddle this will void our responsibility for its future fitting and therefore any comeback should any problem arise regarding its fitting.
